From the architects: “Inspired by the clients’ desire to live in a house that reflects their values and lifestyle, the house takes an architecturally minimal approach with simple massing, an understated material palette, and large expanses of glass. Configured for entertainment, the glass box living area, along with large sliding doors from the dining and pool room invite guests outside onto the pool deck to take in the spectacular view of the Austin skyline. We tried our best to have as little impact on the environment as well. The house has a 3kw solar panel system, instant hot water heaters, bio foam insulation, rain water collection that irrigates a good portion of the lot, very efficient mechanical systems, and low e glass.”

The architect meant to transform a regular living space into one that would reflect architectural focus, or “Ethical Luxury”.  The designer states: “ …the new luxury does not mean immobility or habit, but rather freedom and movement. It is a light and stirring thought, at any moment we are able to choose where and how to live and to reinvent the environment we live in. As for architecture the new luxury is related to the idea of regaining the beauties and the truth of our daily life together with our inner feelings”.

This is a home which had to respond to the constraints of its building site, which stretches on an area of 1880 square meters. It has three levels plus basement and a total of ten bathrooms. We see this more as a residential complex than a family home, but its design and eccentric approach are exciting and different. The interior is modern, with rooms featuring high windows for great ocean views.
